Although this post is a tad bit post-weekend, I thought I should share the gastronomical epicenter of my birthday weekend celebrations: enter pies from Four & Twenty Blackbirds.

From left to right: Apple Pear Pie, Lemon Chess Pie, Buttermilk Chess Pie

Four & Twenty opened their shoppe a week or so after KB and I moved to the Slope (technically Gowanus). We were super amped that we’d have a café literally half a block from our place and that it served up awesome coffee, dessert, and breakfast goodies. I’m especially a fan of their Egg in Nest.

I’ve since been witness to the steady rise in popularity Four & Twenty has garnered, with write ups in the October issues of both Martha Stewart’s Living and Bon Appetit! Owners Melissa and Emily are killing it! Incredibly inspirational business model for the likes of those who are looking for a divergence from the corporate path…
