Bike blenders aren’t necessarily new technology (I just googled a plethora of articles about them), but they are pretty flippin’ neat, and this was the first time I’ve actually seen one in action.

This contraption was being used today as a gazpacho soup making demo via GrowNYC’s Greenmarket program in Williamsburg/Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I incidentally work flowers right next door, so I basically got a front row seat to all the blending action.

Check it out:

Here is the “before” shot of the gazpacho ingredients: local tomatoes, cucumbers (not pictured yet), basil, red onion, and garlic.

The blender container is attached to the bike and brave volunteer gets seated and prepares to pedal.

Pedaling away! It really works!! (Note: screws weren’t tight enough, so additional volunteers were needed to hold the contraption firmly in place.)

The finished product. It was very yummy, and some nice end-of-the-summer nosh. A second batch was made with watermelon added. It was surprisingly savory and refreshing. Bravo bike blender!!
