In the Kitchen: Lumin & Hendrik's Wedding Cupcakes
I’ve been a little MIA from the blogosphere on account of October pulling me in a thousand different directions. Fingers crossed November will be a bit calmer and with the cooler fall weather rolling in, the flower-season is coming to its denouement…which leaves me with my Saturdays available for picking up of back-burner creative endeavors (yessss!)
Last weekend however, I was in...

New & Notable: Deer Sweet Photography
Yeah, yeah…so what if I’ve got a thing for miniature plastic figurines decorating my baked goods? Apparently there are others out there who fancy the same thing….take Kristi McMurry of Deer Sweet Photography for example, tearing up the etsy pages with these sickeningly sweet photos:

Favorite Things: Blue Velvet
I’ve been dreaming of crushed blue velvet…and oddly having major visual déjà vu, spotting one blue velvet party dress after the next:
{above} Navy Velvet Blouse Dress by Gar-de, $412. Available for purchase at Oak.
{above} D Vallens Velvet Dress (Cobalt) by local Greenpoint-Brooklynite Shenan Fraguadas, $188. Available for purchase at Hayden Harnett.

Favorite Things: Nick Cave's Faux Fur-a-Go-Go
I’m totally digging performance artist Nick Cave’s entrance into September Vogue’s fashion-folio. On a surface level, these are spot-on for Halloween musings (I’ve been holding on to these clippings for a month!)…and remind me of my college obsessions with the Providence, Rhode Island based performance collective, Forcefield.
I kind personally kind of glossed over...

Events: CFKC Bake Sale, A Photo Essay
The Cookies For Kids’ Cancer bake sale held last week was a sweeping success. We raised a little over 11.5K, and with OXO and Glad’s corporate matches taken into account amounts to a whopping 46K!!! Truly, truly amazing…and all for pediatric cancer research.
None of this would have been possible without the help of all our amazing sponsors and the at-home baking task force who...

Events: Cookies for Kids' Cancer Bake Sale October...
And it’s finally here! The yearly OXO/Cookies for Kids’ Cancer bake sale I’ve been touting for the past couple of months. There will be sweet treats, and breakfast items too…all donated by some of the best bakeries in the city, as well as equally delicious homemade goodies from employees and foodie bloggers and test kitchens alike. The best part is, 100% percent of the...

In the Kitchen: Spicy Pickled Red Onions
Some pickling recipes can be quite an undertaking. I make a giant batch of Christmas Pickles every holiday season to dole out to all my friends. The total processing time is a little shy of two weeks.
Luckily not all pickle recipes are such a labor of love. Inspired by both David Lebovitz’s take on Pickled Red Onions and Elsie’s recipe from SimplyRecipes, I whipped some of my own up...

Favorite Things: Geometric Bliss
I have a major thing for big rings. Actually I have a thing for big jewelry in general; a collection of the likes of Dinosaur Designs and Alexis Bittar gracing my dressing table. I also love bold geometric forms and neon colors…evident by a failed attempt at a F+F’s neonderthal jewelry collection a few years ago (with hopes to resurface again this upcoming winter in resin!)
I stumbled...

Weekend Eats: Mini Meatball & Brisket Sammies at...
I was originally committed to working flowers this morning, and was ramped up for some Cosmos (the flower, not the drink), but a mechanical issue with the truck prevented it from making it into Brooklyn. So, in light of my freed up day, Kb and I took a little field trip over to the Brooklyn Flea:
Naturally, we got our nosh on:
I opted for a mini meatball sandwich as I love all things...
